Yet more penguin shenanigans
The original site I posted for the penguin baseball game is down, so I've founded another copy, and mirrored it on my site. You can find it in the games menu on the left....

fscking Linux
Ok, so I broke my Linux kernel, and I'm trying to fix it. and I'm bored with the continuous cycle of
  • make menuconfig

  • make dep

  • make clean

  • make bzImage

  • make modules

  • make modules_install

    Appreciate your penguins!
Dammit, I missed Penguin Appreciation Day on the 19th!
Games! (and the odd penguin or two too!)
Ok, so I like penguins. So a lot of people it would seem. I also like webgames. It was only a matter of time until somebody combined the two.

    Fit as a fiddle
Had a mini medical this afternoon, and the doctor told me I had a slow heartbeat - in fact, he asked if I was an athlete. Not bad for a geek that sits in front of computers and eats takeaways....

    Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
That expert at finding cool online games, Starbuck, has done it again. He found an online java version of the classic Infocom text adventure, Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Nuff respect.

I Want To Be A Millionaire
I've managed to get through to the next stage of being selected for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - I hope I get on the show, cos I reckon I could do well at that one, based on being able to answr nearly every question I see when watching it at home. Watch this space!

    Coding with Penguins
Did my first port of one of my Windows apps to Linux last night. Its a little app that decodes PDU encoded SMS messages that have been downloaded from a mobile phone.

Basically this means that a string like 07917238010010F5040BC87238880900F100009930925161958003C16010 gets translated back into the message "hellohello". Ok, so its not that interesting but I was pleased to get it working complete with a nice little GNOME GUI for it. Still has a few little bugs, but then the original Windows version did too! You can see a screenshot here

    A Whopper of a hack?
A bunch of bored teenagers managed to hack the wireless intercom system at a local Burger King drive-thru. One customer was told "You don't need a couple of Whoppers. You are too fat. Pull ahead.". Full story here

    Development Fever
After a hard morning fixing bugs in my Windows application, I'm using my lunchbreak to write applications for Linux. First thing I'm doing is getting to grips with the GLADE GUI editor. Its quite a bit different to what I am used to, but I think I'm getting there. Hopefully it should then produce something I can import into my C# project ready for compiling under Mono

    Too busy to blog (again!)
Our project at work has gone into testing today, and I'm the UAT Manager for it, so excuse me if my blog entry rate takes a bit of a dip, I've kinda got my hands full at the moment.....

    Silly names for projects
On Monday, our software project that we've been working on for nearly 2 years goes into testing. Projects round here have the dubious tradition of being named after shipping regions around the UK, and hence our project is called Cromarty. I just feel sorry for the poor people that get stuck with a project called Dogger...

Enter The Matrix (but only if you have enough disk space!)
My copy of the game Enter The Matrix arrived today and I was hoping to install it lunchtime. Trouble is, it needs a whopping 4.3Gb of hard disk space. Shame, cos I've only got 1.68 left on my windows partition. Looks like I'm gonna have to do some creative re-partitioning work....or can I put it on an EXT3 partition seeing as I have EXT2/3 drivers mounted for read/write under Windows now? Plenty of space on my Linux partition, wonder if I can share it nicely with Windows?

    Justice gone mad (as usual)
Disheartening story in The Sun about a pharmacist that was attacked and beaten unconcious in his own store. When he used the pharmacy computer records to provide the police with the name and address of his attacker, he himself got charged with abuse of the Data Protection Act. Makes me sick when I hear yet another case of the victims being punished while the real criminals get away with it.
