While writing some scripts today, I found this Online Regular Expression tester quite useful. Probably no use whatsoever to non-geeks, but us techies may find it a handy tool....
Google Talk from the chat-happy dept. Google have just launched their new Instant Messenger (despite denying they were making one). Its called Google Talk and appears to be based on Jabber, which means it works with any Jabber compatible client, such as GAIM (instructions for setting it up in GAIM here. Seems to be restricted to Gmail users at the moment, and the voice chat capabilities are only available using the official Windows-only client.
Fixed everything except the Postfix stuff. A few uninstalls/reinstalls/reboots got things working again. Pretty much have a LAMP server on my laptop working now. The world is suddenly a better place

Can't get an SSH session to my laptop today. PHP won't work in Apache, Postfix locks up, no ping responses from laptop to desktop. I bloody hate networking! This all worked fine Friday and I've not changed anything
A new virus hit a bunch of our servers at work today. Annoying, but makes me glad my own machines run Linux. To that end, I created this wallpaper [click to enlarge]

Ext2/3 driver for Windows There's a few ways of doing this (strange as it may seem, I use a commercial product - yes, Mr Open Source!), but some guy has done an Ext2 filesystem driver for Windows (also works for ext3 if you read the FAQ), using Microsoft's Installable File System SDK.
Turned my hand to a little more development on the Apple Mac, this time using the Cocoa# libraries. Initially just tried the simple tutorial from their wiki page. Glad to see it worked, although admittedly the app doesn't actually do much. Nice proof-of-concept though
Don't panic, I've not forgone my lovely Linux for the new version of Windoze, but Ben at work has spent the last couple of hours waiting for it to install on his laptop. Sheesh, I coulda installed a dozen laptops with Linux in that time.
If, like me, you like a little kick to the taste of your food, you could do worse than go to San Diego, where you'll find this little shop. Gotta love the legal waiver for the serious sauces - you know how litigious the Americans can be!
My old mate RetroGamerUK reminded me that the comments script was broken. In the process of upgrading it to the latest version, I made it even more broken than it already was. For the time being I've turned it all off, but I have abackup of past comments. WIll fix it when I get time.
Is it me, or do all BitTorrent downloads stop when they get between 90 and 100% ? You've almost got that file you wanted, when it grinds to a halt and all peers have disappeared, never to return to the internet ever again. Bloody annoying that!
[Listening to: nothing, cos BitTorrent stopped downloading the tune I wanted! ]
