The
BBC is reporting on a US congressional report that has shown that more than 5% of registered domains have been registered with "patently false" data (such as addresses and phone numbers).
Supporting this scaremongering, the BBC goes on to say "The findings could mean that many websites are fronts for spammers, phishing gangs and other net criminals."
Or could it be that there are other domain owners like myself, that don't want every Tom Dick and Harry using
WHOIS and phoning me or turning up on my doorstep.

There are some
Debian (and thus
Ubuntu) packages that are not compatible with
RMS' definition of true "
Free Software".
So I installed
vrms, the "Virtual Richard M Stallman" to check for these packages. After removing the ones that didn't comply (which I didn't really need anyway), I now get
niceguyuk@nicemini:~$ vrms
No non-free packages installed on nicemini! rms would be proud.

Tried a LiveCD version of
Kubuntu today - the KDE based version of
Ubuntu. Worked to the same standard as I've come to expect from Ubuntu, but I just still don't like the KDE desktop. Still, thats one of the benefits of
FOSS - choice.
Also watched the film
Napoleon Dynamite after seeing references to it all over the web lately. Gotta say I was pretty much unimpressed by the whole thing (apart from the famous dance sequence) - I guess you have to be a product of the American high school system to appreciate it fully.
