Built a new
FreeBSD server last night using more donated spare hardware. The install was remarkably easy and fast, but I guess thats because it only gives you the basics needed to get the machine up and running, without any graphical environment, apps or anything configured.
I've got a basic SSH server running so I can spend the next few days slowly configuring the machine. However, SSHing to the box seems a bit slow and I'm not convinced its a hardware issue - the 192MB Pentium III 550Mhz should be ample for a server of this nature. Maybe the 10 gig drive is the problem...
